Personal Protective Equipment policy
Buoyancy aids (or lifejackets for powerboating) *
Every item will be visually checked every time it is issued and returned.
BAs will be hygiene cleaned after every use with a solution of fresh water and Rinsd, then dried overnight in the drying room.
Rinsd is a new (2025) wetsuit cleaning detergent comprised of two powders.
- Use one scoop from each tub in a bucket with warm water to dissolve
- Mix into half a barrel of fresh water
- Solution good for 48 hours
- Wear gloves provided (solution can be drying to skin)
- Shake off excess sand
- Dunk and soak (if possible) wetsuits/BAs
- Rinse in fresh water
- Hang to dry outside
- Move to drying room before Centre closes for the day
- Use washing up liquid if Rinsd is not available
Lifejackets are aired outside and sprayed with disinfectant spray if required.
Damaged or failed items should be quarantined out of service using the red and white striped tape which is available as self-adhesive or tie on. It should then be reported: written on the whiteboard grid for fault reports plus the equipment logbook at Reception, and to the Office Manager.
* Annually tested: Buoyancy aids in-house, lifejackets externally.
Amended 24 May 2025 to include new information about Rinsd cleaner.
