Meet the Cardigan Bay Watersports Team

All our instructors have at least the minimum qualification required for the discipline they are teaching.

They will also hold their Powerboating 2 Certificate, VHF and a current First Aid certificate, so you can be confident they know what they are doing. See for yourself below…

We sponsor our instructors and volunteers to get further qualified or improve their skills:

  • In 2014 we funded 3 new Dinghy instructors and a Powerboat instructor.
  • In 2015 we sent 4 members of the team to do their “Multi-hull” endorsement.
  • In 2016 we sponsored 2 new Windsurf instructors, 2 Paddle board instructors, a Senior instructor and a Powerboat instructor.
  • In 2017 we funded First aid courses for 6 of the team.  We also donated kayaks and paddleboards to use for the inshore races run by Cardigan Bay Regatta which we have continued since.
  • In 2018 we sponsored one of the team for their Safety boat course and one Senior dinghy instructor, 6 of the team their First Aid course.
  • In 2019 we sponsored a Dinghy instructor, a Keelboat instructor and a Windsurf instructor and 7 team members their VHF certificate as well as 14 of the team First Aid courses. We also provided a power boat team to support Hel’s Belles women’s rowing team on the Celtic Challenge.
  • In 2020 with Covid 19 protection we had 12 of the team complete First Aid courses.  We sponsored 10 of the team for their BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue certificate and BCU Paddlesport instructor qualification.  We also sponsored 4 of the team to complete the RYA Powerboat 2 .
  • In 2021 we sponsored 4 of the team’s First Aid courses, 2 RYA Powerboat 2, 1 Surf instructor, 2 Dinghy instructors and 2 Senior instructors, 5 Sea Survival courses, 3 VHF places, ongoing CPD both internally and externally despite Covid restrictions!
  • In 2022 we have funded four Wingsup instructors and two Dinghy instructors, renewed a lot of First Aid certificates and brought trainees on board for the newly-reinstated kayak tours. Two instructors have qualified as commercially-endorsed skippers, using new RIB Gemini to support the tours.
  • In 2023 we had 2 newly qualified Windsurf instructors and updated another lot of First Aid certificates.  We are also growing our young volunteers to be the next batch of watersport instructors.
  • 2024: Ciara became a Senior Instructor and Evie Campbell qualified as a wingsurf instructor. Several of our younger volunteers including Steff, Oscar, Jasper and Tom did their RYA Powerboating course with us.

We recognise we are not able to offer work all year round, but we are proud of the successes of our staff who go on to full time work in this and related industries. Not bad going for a little centre in West Wales!

Work experience places are limited, so if it is time for you to do your work experience, we may be able to help, but don’t leave it too late!
