Women’s Sailing
For the last few years we have run a very successful and popular weekly series of lessons for women (those who identify as women or non-binary). You can work towards Level 1 (around 16 hours of instruction) or Level 2 / 3.
You do not need to be very fit and we will do our best to accommodate any injuries/disabilities etc. You do need to have a basic level of confidence in and around the water, but being an ace swimmer is not required.
The instructors are usually female, although you might have to put up with the occasional male! All our instructors are highly-qualified and very enthusiastic about sailing. You will get very wet, a bit cold, and laugh a lot!
We will use different boats from our fleet, from single-handed, stable Picos to larger Bahias. You will have some on-land theory but most of the time will be spent with the boats – rigging (and de-rigging and putting away!), launching, recovering, capsize drills, tacking and gybing, coming alongside and loads more.
To see more about the different levels, check the RYA website.
Sessions run weekly and you can book a block or just one to see if you like it. Once the term is well underway we will not allow complete beginners, just so the others have a chance to learn the new skills they need to earn their certification. If you want to be put on the waiting list, please get in touch via the contact form.
We have wetsuits you can hire for £5. You’ll also need to bring lunch or buy it nearby. Bring a towel and swimsuit, and wetsuit boots/old trainers. We provide buoyancy aids.
If we have to cancel because the conditions are inappropriate we will either reimburse you or you can re-book. Cancellation Policy.

We have been lucky to win funding for our Women’s Sailing courses in the past, and we are glad to have had the opportunity to widen participation, especially locally. Some of our sailors have gone on to own their own boats, race with New Quay Yacht Club, and head abroad to try their skills elsewhere.
