SUPPORTERS
This page provides news and information for our supporters and those who wish to join them.
Cardigan Bay Watersports is a Registered Charity, the running costs of which are net through a mixture of income sources:- charges for activities and courses; grants; loans; donations from supporters; sponsorship and; volunteer time.
Ways in which supporters help us:
1. Making a donation to the centre. As a registered charity, all donations are welcome and if they can be made under Gift Aid we benefit from an additional 25p per £. Replacement wetsuits, buoyancy aids and cagoules cost £25-£30, maintaining and servicing safety equipment, engines and boats costs hundreds of pounds per year.
2. Sponsorship/advertising. Could you or your company sponsor some kit or take advertising space on sails etc. Sponsors have helped us acquire new boats.
3. Volunteering at the centre. We can always use help preparing and maintaining equipment and facilities, launching and recovery of kit. Experienced volunteers also help with safety cover and instruction and we can assist with training.
4. Help with managing the centre. The trustees are volunteers and we could use additional support from individuals, with experience, to assist with management and succession planning.
NEWS
The new season is upon us. The following significant events that have happened since last summer taking us into our 10th operating season.
- With a magnificent response from our supporters in voting for us, we secured a NatWest Community Force award having recorded the largest number of votes in West Wales. The award of £6,275 is to help us maintain our schools/youth programme this year.
- After a number of false starts we now have access to a substantial grant from the Ceredigion Social Enterprise Growth Fund to support our marketing efforts over the next two seasons. The grant has EU origins and therefore comes with obligations and the requirement to match-fund 35% by a mixture of in-kind activities and a cash contribution.
- A small training grant has been won to allow two seasonal staff to gain their senior instructor qualifications.
- Our latest award comes from the West Wales Local Investment Fund providing 40% towards the cost of six stand-up paddleboards. This enables the fastest growing watersport to be sampled in New Quay.
- Finally, the Welsh Yachting Association is lending its support to our plans to develop dinghy racing in Ceredigion and increasing our interaction with New Quay Yacht Club to achieve this.
These awards have been hard won and make an important contribution to the implementation of our plans as we work to become self-sustainable. There is still a long way to go to reach that happy state and we need to improve our cash reserves and meet the total funding requirements of our grants. After careful consideration we have set a target of £10,000 to meet this requirement.
